More
and more Ottawa youth are choosing careers within the trades.
The reason for this is that the old stereotypes about the trades being
low-tech, unrewarding and low paying are quickly disappearing. There
are also more and more females entering the trades every year.
Some of the tips provided by employers are:
- Present
yourself as a "clean-cut" professional - in other words,
dress appropriately.
- Make
sure that your resume is free of errors (grammar and spelling).
- Ask
to speak with the Service Manager - don't just pass your resume into
the receptionist.
- Successful
candidates usually possess a good attitude, a strong work ethic and
a willingness to learn.
- Be
willing to work initially for entry-level wages while you are in training.
Salary and benefit packages of $50,000 or greater are common within
the industry, once individuals acquire their certifications.
